Things I Love Thursday: Audio Books
I use to be a huge reader, always in the middle of several books. Any night of the week, I could be found awake late wrapped up in a good book. Then enter kids into the picture. As a mother of young children, I rarely feel I have any time to read.
Then I was introduced to the idea of audio books. I'll admit, I was skeptical at first. I am a visual learner. I need to read something for myself and definitely remember best if I physically handle a book or paper. But I have found, although I can't underline as I go, I have thoroughly enjoyed listen to books on my iPod.
I started by turning on a book while cooking dinner, or cleaning the house. But my real enthusiasm for audio books came after we moved to Scotland last September. Without a car here, I walk everywhere -- to the grocery store, the library, the park, etc. That give me lots of time pushing a buggy (stroller) with very little else to do. Now, if not walking with a friend, I just turn on the latest book and enjoy!
If you want to give this a try, check out the free book of the month from Christian Audio. They offer a free book each month. In March they are offering two free books in preparation for Easter.
The Cost of Discipleship by Dietrich Bonhoeffer (Use Coupon Code: MAR2010)
Fifty Reasons Why Jesus Came to Die by John Piper (Use Coupon Code: MAR2010B)
Now you know know what I'll be 'reading' this month on my way to the grocery store.
