Have you ever tried to push a double stroller up a hill on an icy sidewalk in 30 degree weather while dressed in church clothes for Christmas Sunday?
We decided to ride the bus to church today. The bus was late and very full, but we made it to church; a little late, but we made it.
Joshua was just in time to join his Sunday school class on the stage to sing a Christmas song. Funny thing ... we didn't know about the performance and Joshua didn't know the song. He has only gone to Sunday School 3 or 4 times (in the beginning he just wanted to stay in the nursery with Abigail).
It was a fun service, a family service, where all the kids stayed with their parents during the service. It has been a while since Joshua stayed in church with us. I enjoyed watching his response to various elements in the service - his look of recognition during the Lord's Prayer, the way he held my hand during prayer time, the way he stood up for every song.
After church, we had lunch downtown and walked some of the shops. By the end of the trip, though, Darren and I were a little worn out trying to keep track of the kids among the crowds of Christmas shoppers.
The kids had a very busy day, but they did wonderfully. They are growing up so quickly. We had a wonderful family day!
