If I Give a Pig My P.J.'s

Have you read any of the children's books in the series If You Give A Mouse A Cookie by Laura Joffe Numeroff and Felicia Bond? They are such cute books about a crazy series of events that happen if you give a mouse a cookie(or a pig a pancake, or a moose a muffin, etc).

"If you give a mouse a cookie...
He will want a glass of milk...
and a straw...
then a napkin ..." etc.

The events in the books always lead back to the beginning; they cose with "chances are he's going to want a cookie (a pancake, a muffin, etc)..."

Tonight Joshua was saying something about a pig and his P.J.'s. We weren't sure what he was trying to tell us, but Darren quipped back, "If you give a pig your P.J.'s...?" Joshua started laughing and began creating his own story. It went something like this:
"If I give a pig my P.J.'s,
He'll want to sleep in my bed.
Then he'll want to hold my teddy.
And he will drink my water.
When he wakes up, he'll want to play.
And that will make him tired.
He will want to take a nap.
And for his nap, he'll want to wear my P.J's."
I was so excited that Joshua followed Darren's lead and started adding his own ideas to the story. We had already gone through the story twice (he likes to repeat things) when he came up with "he will drink my water."

Beautiful! This was the first time Joshua was really engaged in creating his own story.
