Swimming in the tub

Joshua has discovered that the bath tub has more than one function.

Just this week it seemed to dawn on him that he could lay on his tummy in the tub. Prior to this bath time was all about sitting.

Now he can kick his feet and paddle his arms, like he does in the big pool at swim lessons. He even put his face in the water to blow bubbles!

Too bad I didn't have the camera near by.

First Day of School

Tuesday was Joshua's first day in his new class at school.

For the last few weeks, we have been trying to prepare him for the change to a new teacher and a new classroom.

He looked a little concerned when I took him to a different room that morning, but he seems to have warmed up to his new class.

Joshua's new teacher is Miss Bela. Every morning since that first day he has asked me if we are going to see Miss Bela. I think he must like her.

He also has several of the same friends in class with him, so that has helped with the transition.

Here are some pictures from his first day that Miss Bela emailed to me. Enjoy!

"I'm a Promise"

Joshua opened a new VeggieTales Sing Along CD today (More Sunday Morning Songs). One of the songs on this CD is "I'm a Promise." Although I knew that song was on it, I was caught by surprise. And it made me smile.

When I was a kid (I couldn't have been more than ten years old), my older sister and I spent a few weeks with my grandparents in Idaho one summer. Whenever we would ride in the car, we would ask to listen to grandma's 8-track with that very song on it. In grandma's car was the only time we ever heard that song, but I always loved it.

It was just fun to have my own little kids listen to a song I loved as a child and had such wonderful memories surrounding it.

More teeth!?

Abigail has added another two teeth in her little mouth. She is up to six teeth now.

This little girl is getting her teeth in much faster than her brother. And we were told that he got his teeth in early.

These teeth, the two upper incisors, bothered her more, as they came in. We have has some fussy days and nights, but nothing too extreme.

She has such a cute little smile.

When she smiles really big, her two bottom teeth show!

Joshua in the pool

Today was Joshua's first day of swimming class. I was not sure he would even get in the pool on his own. We arrived a little early and I asked the lifeguard if we could get in and warm up. Joshua was happy to go down the first two steps, but did not want to go any further. However, once all the other kids got into the pool, he was happy to follow their example.

Joshua really likes his swim teacher. He watched her carefully as she showed the class how to move their arms and kick their legs. She had wonderful transitions from one activity to another -- Joshua's favorite was "Blastoff", where we count down from ten, then jump up in the air.

This is going to be a wonderful time for Joshua and I to spend together. We had so much fun today!

Swimming Class

I decided to take a swimming class with Joshua and Abigail this fall at the local YMCA pool. Abigail's class is on Tuesday mornings while Joshua is at school. And Joshua's class is on Saturday mornings when Darren can be home with Abigail.

Today was Abigail's first time in the big pool. She did really well and loved splashing around, at least for a little while. She seemed to get cold about half way through the lesson and started fussing, but she was able to finish the class session.

I have never done anything like this with little kids. We had a one-on-one lesson, because no one else showed up. The teacher did a nice job getting her to kick and splash. She didn't like floating on her back, but eventually relaxed enough to enjoy it.

It was a fun lesson! Hopefully a few more people will join next week, or they may have to cancel this class. But at least we had one day of fun.
