Baby Group

Last week several of the mom's here got together for a baby party.
Abigail (on the far left) is the youngest of the group at six months and the oldest is eight months old. It is fun to have so many little ones the same age.

Pool Day at School

Joshua has Pool Day every Thursday morning at preschool this summer. He finally enjoys playing in a wading pool.

The first day he walked around the pool for almost 30 minutes before he joined his classmates in the water. That was the first time he's ever gotten in a pool on his own. Now he loves it!

We decided to get a small pool to set up outside our apartment on hot days. It has been a big hit! And several neighbor kids have come over to enjoy it too.

Here are some pictures of Joshua's first Pool Day at preschool.

Abigail Crawls ... sort of ...

Okay, so she wasn't really "crawling", but Abigail is finding great new ways of getting around while still stuck on her belly.

On Friday I walked into the living room to see Abigail trying to work her way over to Joshua and his stuff. It was amazing! I grabbed the video camera and caught the end of her efforts.

This is my first time using youtube to post video. It's not the best quality, but it is easy.

Abigail at Six Months!

Abigail had her six month check-up last week. She did great... and so did Joshua who got to go with us to the doctor. So here are the stats. Abigail weighs 14 pounds 13 ounces, in the 27th percentile, and she is 25 inches tall, in the 33rd percentile.

Joshua was the same height at six months, but didn't weigh that much until almost seven months old. Abigail is much chubbier than her brother ever was. She has these cute, rolly-polly legs and arms!

Our Nineth Anniversary!

Today is our wedding anniversary. We have had nine wonderful years together, moving all over the country, learning about each other, exploring life together! I am so thankful for my amazing husband, and for all that God has given us!

We were married in the summer after my college graduation. Darren had been living in Chicago for a year at that point. After the honeymoon, we drove with my parents across the country to our new apartment together in Forest Park, Illinois about 10 miles west of Chicago city limits.

Those five years in the Chicago area were great. We were so excited to finally be together after our long-distance relationship the previous year. It was a time of exploration ... of ourselves, of marriage, of each other, of our faith, of life! What a wonderful time!

Then we spent two years in the Nashville area, yes, in Tennessee! We enjoyed a restful and refreshing time at our church, Nashville First Church of the Nazarene. Pastor Henecke was the pastor of Darren's in Portland while he was growing up. There was a great group of people and such wonderful preaching. We both felt that it was like coming home.

Now we are in New Jersey. What a contrast to the friendly south! Even so, our community here at PTS is amazing and we are both being stretched and growing, individually and together!

Life is good! God is good! We have two beautiful children! And every day I spend with Darren I fall deeper in love!

Happy Anniversary!

Abigail loves eating!

I am so excited that Abigail finally loves eating solid foods.

After weeks of struggling, trying to get her to eat rice cereal. She would cry and fuss anytime we had to eat.

Finally, I decided to skip the cereal and try something else.

Apparently that was the right idea. Once she tasted sweet potatoes, she became very motivated to eat at meal times.

Now she will eat anything, even the hated rice cereal. As we keep introducing new foods, we have not encountered anything that she doesn't like.

Meal times are a joy again!

New Playroom!

We decided to rearrange our living room to create more of a playroom for Joshua. He loves it!

We found a great little shelving system for his books and purchased a cute toy box for the rest of his toys. The new road map rug is great for all his new matchbox cars.

Joshua is in to cars, trucks and construction vehicles right now. We found a great puzzle that he loves. It is a big 2'x 3' floor puzzle with a big back hoe in the front, several dump trucks, a cement truck and a bulldozer.

Fourth of July

On the Fourth of July we drove out to a local, family-owned orchard for the first time. Check out Terhune Orchards online for more about this great farm.

They have big pick-your-own crops of fruit all summer, and into the fall with pumpkins and apples. We didn't have time to pick anything for ourselves with two kids in tow.

We did pick up some fresh blueberries in the little store, along with come super-fresh veggies.

They also have a cut-your-own flower garden as well; we took home a nice bouquet.

They have a little area with toy tractors to ride -- this was a big hit with Joshua. There are also a few old tractors set up for kids to climb on.

The farm has a few animals that they allow people to pet. Joshua was fascinated and a little scared to see all the animals in real life. He enjoyed the horse, the goats and the sheep (although the sheep wouldn't come close enough to pet).

The chickens and ducks were a little too boring to keep his attention, but he loved the Guinea Hens that were running loose because he could chase them.

We did catch some fireworks at the County Park on July 5. They put on a big event with music and all the fried food you could want. We hid in the car during a passing thunder storm, but were able to get out and enjoy the fireworks display. Joshua was a little scared of the loud booming, but talked about the display for days afterward.

What a fun weekend!

Joshua's Tricycle

I have been looking for a tricycle for Joshua, one with a push handle that would allow us to help him out on long walks.

Well, at the community garage sale I spotted the perfect tricycle. They told me I could have it for free because it didn't work. It was filthy little bike, left outside too long, apparently abandoned by a previous resident.

Back at home, Joshua and I examined the tricycle to see if we could fix it. After taking it apart and reassembling it, the bike finally worked. Next we had to clean it. This was Joshua's favorite part. We went to work with a bucket of water and some sponges.

Now Joshua has a great little tricycle that he loves to ride, though he is still learning how to work the petals correctly. And it only cost a little TLC.

Water-Play!

One of Joshua's favorite new activities is water-play.

This is a new development for him. Only a few months ago he wouldn't touch water outside, though he loved taking baths. Now he loves any water he can reach.

Sometimes we go down to the grass and set up the water table. Abigail loves to watch from her blanket.

When time doesn't allow that, I fill up a bucket on the deck and let Joshua splash and play.

Summer is such fun!
