Family Letter

With the new year already well underway, we wanted to send you an update on our family. What a wonderful year this has been! Abigail Anne joined our family on January 5, 2008. She is so sweet and is growing so quickly. Joshua loves his little sister and is learning what it means to be a big brother. He comes running to help every time she cries.

Joshua has been growing and learning much this year. He is an energetic and curious two-year-old. We enrolled him in preschool this year for two mornings a week. It has been a great opportunity for him to play with other children his age. He loves the music and art time. It has also helped him gain confidence in his abilities by seeing the examples of other kids.

Darren is more than half-way through the Masters of Divinity program at Princeton Theological Seminary. He will be working on Ph.D. applications before the end of the year. This summer he will be interning with GreenFaith – a faith-based organization working to teach people how to be good stewards of the earth. In addition to his placement at GreenFaith, Darren is also planning on studying another language over the summer, either Latin or French – and taking the GRE exam to prepare for Ph.D. requirements.

We have been so happy this year to be attending First Presbyterian Church of Hamilton Square. It has been a great experience for all of us. Darren has been working for the church since September to fulfill his year-long field education placement. He has had the opportunity to preach and to teach adult education classes. Everyone at the church has been friendly and supportive.

Christy has been enjoying the opportunity to be a stay-at-home mom. In addition to her mommy duties, she has been managing the finances of our growing online business (which we incorporated this past year). She also manages the small online store that we launched last summer, and which we hope to expand this year. Last winter Christy helped start a women's Bible study for those in the community who needed a place to connect. It has been a wonderful blessing!

We are thankful for all that God has given us in this year and look forward to His work in our lives in the year to come.

Mom's visit

My mom came to stay with us for almost two weeks after Abigail was born. She was such a huge help -- dishes, laundry, etc. -- though I'm sure what she really wanted to do was sit and hold the new baby the whole time. Joshua had a wonderful time with grandma.

Abigail smiles!

Abigail smiled for the first time on Valentine's Day! My mom claims that she had been smiling at her before that, but this was the first time that her smile was clearly a direct response to the attention I was giving her. What a beautiful smile!

Abigail reached another milestone... she rolled from her tummy to her back for the first time this week, on Saturday, April 12.

We were all watching while she was doing "tummy-time" in the living room. Darren and I clapped and cheered when she rolled over. This got Joshua so excited that he kept saying, "More, more!" However, Abigail decided that one time was enough for now. It was a few days before she rolled over again.

But Joshua wasn't done. He decided to show Abigail how this "rolling-thing" should be done. He laid down on the blanket next to her and proceeded to roll back and forth until Darren and I cheered for him, too!
