Incredible Ultrasound

Our ultrasound was amazing! I think the impact caught us both by surprise -- made this all seem more real. Suddenly before us on the monitor was our baby -- so real, so human.

Our first view of him was in profile. He was lying on his back with his legs stretched above his body, his little toes almost touching the top of his head. We just sat in awe as we watched our baby move his arm and open his mouth in a big yawn. The camera angle changed to view the bottom of his feet -- we got to count ten little toes.

As we progressed further into the exam, he started moving around. The ultrasound technician had quite a challenge getting all the shots she needed for the doctor. We looked at the brain, all the internal organs and the little beating heart -- everything looked good.

Check out all the ultrasound pictures in our photo gallery.

Don't Touch That Mouse!

Tomorrow we go in for the big ultrasound, and if all goes according to plan we'll learn the gender of our first baby! Will it be a manly Darren Jr., or a lovely little princess? "Slugs and snails and puppy dog tails," or "sugar and spice and everything nice?" Star Trek or "Pride and Prejudice?" Simon or Garfunkel?

With two male cats in the house (who each get half a vote when it comes to things like pizza toppings and movies ... I cast their votes by proxy), a boy would put the men in an almost unsurmountable lead. But a girl would tie things up and, if an immanent coup to strip the cats of their power succeeds, could throw things into the land of veggies and the Hallmark Channel.

Stay tuned.
